Pizza Dough Experiment

A good friend of mine organized this online workshop/cooking class/kitchen science experiment last week. It was adapted from this experiment and an excellent example of how we can collaboratively learn online plus free up some time for another parent!

We started out by adding yeast to sugar water of different temperatures (cold, lukewarm & hot) and observing that the yeast activated faster the warmer the water. We also noticed that there was a rather boozy smell being created by the yeast activating.

Next, we made pizza dough using the yeast mixture from the hot bowl. The dough got to rise for a bit at room temperature and then rested in the fridge until we were ready to roll it out and make our pizza the next night. Yum!
